Tottenham plotting to ‘get rid’ of ‘deadwood’ in mass exodus after Conte’s confession – pundit
Noel Whelan has suggested Tottenham may be plotting to offload more “deadwood” from the squad this summer.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested money saved on the winter departures could go on new signings at the end of the season.
Speaking at his press conference on Friday (4 February), as quoted by Sky Sports, Antonio Conte admitted it was “strange” to offload four senior players in the January window.

He suggested the departures pointed to “mistakes in the past”.
Spurs allowed Bryan Gil, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso to leave on loan, while Dele Alli joined Everton permanently.
Whelan suggested the quartet would not be the only exits ahead of the summer.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I don’t think Conte took the job just on the back of the squad that he had without the guarantee that there’s going to be money to spend in the summer.
“I think he had a little bit to spend in the January window but I think all their plans are based on switching around, changing and bringing new faces into the club.
“January was here to get bodies out and get people players out the football club. I think they’ve done that, they’ve been successful in getting some people off the wage bill.
“Summertime, they’ll probably get rid of some more deadwood they don’t want, with another mass exodus.
“I think he’ll be happy that he got some new faces in and two players that he knows himself from his Juventus days.”

Spurs signed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus on deadline day.
The former has signed a contract until 2026, while the latter has joined on an 18-month loan.
