Tottenham prepare contract offer for 22-goal attacker – report

By Harvey Byrne

Tottenham are preparing to offer star attacker Dele Alli a new contract in an attempt to fend off interest from Barcelona, according to a report.

The Express have claimed on their website that Spurs are intent of keeping hold of the 21-year-old and are looking to bring him in line with the club’s top earners.

The report follows a claim from the Mirror stating that Barcelona have identified the England international as a possible replacement for Neymar this summer.

However, despite being granted a new deal just last September taking him up to 2022 it is said by the Express that Tottenham are now looking to offer him a deal which could see him earn as much as £80,000-a-week at the north London club.

Alli has been a huge hit at Tottenham since completing a £5million move from League One outfit MK Dons in February 2015 and last season the young star scored a highly impressive 22 goals and provided 13 assists in 50 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Football Insider verdict:

Alli is the main star of the current Tottenham team alongside Harry Kane and Spurs must ensure they do everything in their power to keep hold of him. Spurs sold former star Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for a world record transfer fee in 2013 and many felt that they would then be able to replace the Welshman with a number of players who could improve their starting eleven. However, they found that despite having the money they found it difficult to replace the speedster and that they may have been better keeping hold of him. Therefore, despite whatever money Spurs are offered for Alli they will be better off keeping him as they look to win their first Premier League title.
