Tottenham scouts alerted to 20-year-old attacker from Ligue 1 – report
By Derek Smithson
Tottenham scouts are eyeing youngster Vincent Marcel from Ligue 1 club Nice, according to a report.
The Sun claim that Spurs scouts have been monitoring the French side to run the rule over defender Ricardo Pereira, who has been on loan from Porto and is viewed as a replacement for Kyle Walker.
However, it is understood that representatives from the north London club have been alerted to the qualities of attacker Marcel.
The report details that the 20-year-old winger has stood out and has been compared to Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele due to his pace on the flank.
The France Under-20 international would not command a big transfer fee despite having four years remaining on his contract and could make an immediate impact in the Spurs first team.
Marcel is a product of the Nice academy and only made his senior breakthrough for the French side last season.
The right winger made 10 appearances across all competitions, including two matches in the club’s Europa League campaign.
Football Insider verdict:
Spurs should seriously consider swooping for Marcel this summer as he is available at a minimal fee. The 20-year-old is a highly rated talent in France and is surely going to get more first-team opportunities at Nice next season. His valuation is only going to rise with every game and Spurs’ scouts will hope they have unearthed a gem. Mauricio Pochettino has never been keen to introduce youngsters into the senior set-up and the club’s scouts are confident that Marcel is the ready-made product. The north London club are short of genuine width in their side, with Christian Eriksen, Heung-Min Son and Dele Alli tending to drift inside. Goerges-Kevin N’Koudou struggled to make an impression in the first team last year and it could be the turn of Marcel.
In other Tottenham transfer news, their 23-year-old is being eyed by a Bundesliga club.
