‘No problem’ – Tottenham star delivers major boost on injury woes after layoff

By Russell Edge

Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele has said that he is hoping to return to full fitness soon after having been forced to sit on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

The Belgian international began the season as one of Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice stars in the centre of the park, starting in their opening three fixtures.

However the 30-year-old then went missing from the side after being named in the starting line up against Barnsley, with the Argentine manager confirming he had been suffering with an ongoing ankle injury which had progressively gotten worse.

It meant that Dembele missed the club’s next six games, during which Spurs went unbeaten, before returning to the side in their shock 3-2 defeat to West Ham in the League Cup.

Now he has assured fans that the worst of his injury troubles are behind him and that, having returned to training, he will be back to his best sooner rather than later.

Speaking to the press ahead of the club’s clash with Manchester United on Saturday, he was quoted by journalist Ben Pearce on his personal Twitter account as saying: “I’ve started training again and it’s no problem.

“I hope I will get to my level quickly. I started training well & we’ll see how it goes.”

Dembele has been a regular fixture in the starting line up at Tottenham since arriving from fellow London side Fulham back in 2012, making 204 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring 10 goals and chipping in with 11 assists.

He has also been a star player for the Belgian national side, with 70 caps to his name since his debut back in 2006.
