Tottenham stars losing ‘faith’ in Nuno as source reveals Emerson medical news

Noel Whelan insists Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty will be worried after Tottenham agreed a deal for Emerson Royal.

The former Leeds hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest Spurs transfer news.

On Monday (30 August), a Tottenham source told Football Insider Emerson will undergo a medical at Tottenham after a £25.7million bid was accepted by Barcelona.

It is understood the defender will undergo a medical tomorrow with the right-back also on the verge of agreeing personal terms with the London giants.

Aurier is yet to make an appearance for Tottenham this season and it is understood he will be sold before Tuesday’s deadline, while Doherty has only appeared for seven minutes in the Premier League.

Doherty and fellow full-back Ryan Sessegnon have both started in Spurs UEFA Conference League qualifying games.

Whelan insists things aren’t looking good for the defenders now Emerson is on the verge of signing.

“They have a lot of right-backs now,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“Sessegnon is back at the club and now they are going to sign another one.

“It doesn’t fill you with much faith if you are Doherty and Aurier looking at this bit of business.

“It’s more competition and it’s always been on the cards. Again, it’s a new manager wanting new players, players he likes.

“If you don’t like what you have you have to go into the market to get what you need.”

Spurs are unbeaten in the Premier League so far this season, winning all of their games 1-0.

They are next in action against Crystal Palace after the internationla break.
