Tottenham told it ‘get it done and over the line’ after confirmed Harry Kane news – expert

Alan Hutton has claimed Tottenham are have been missing a winning mentality since he was at the club in 2008.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender said the club have been “happy coming second best” for far too long.

After the Lilywhites’ 3-1 defeat to Brentford on Saturday (20 May), Harry Kane claimed “a lot needs to change” if the club wants to be successful moving forward and that the defeat to the Bees proved than an overhaul is required.

Spurs had been pushing for top four earlier in the season but after a string of poor results find themselves fighting for any European place in eighth with one game left to play.

Hutton agreed with Kane that the club need a revamp to compete with the top teams.

I think it is a mentality thing that has always been there,” he told Football Insider.

When you are not used to winning trophies you do not know what that feels like it was even like that when I was there.

You look at the likes of Man City, they are just so hungry to win trophies and they know how to get it done and over the line. You can’t be happy coming second best and I think it has gone on too long for Tottenham.

I think 2008 was the last time they won a trophy and that is when I was there and I am retired now. It has been a long time and they have had way better teams than when I was there.

I think there is this mentality at the club that has been there since 2008.
