Tottenham told to back Conte ‘now’ as Levy U-turn mooted – pundit
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy could be trying to hold off on a spending spree until the summer window, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, urged Spurs to add new faces “now” if they are to realise their Champions League ambitions this term.
Speaking after Tottenham were defeated 2-0 against Chelsea on Sunday (23 January) and quoted by football.london, Antonio Conte insisted the Blues are on “another level” to his side and insisted Thomas Tuchel’s squad is “much stronger”.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (24 January) that Conte is putting “huge pressure” on Levy and the Spurs board to complete four new signings in the last week of the window.
The capture of Adama Traore is virtually complete after Tottenham had a bid of £20million plus £2.75m of add-ons accepted by Wolves last Friday (21 January).
Speaking about potential incomings this month, Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Conte will have gone into Tottenham thinking he’ll have funds to spend.
“They’re a little bit short, and he said that after the Chelsea game. When you compare Chelsea’s squad depth to Tottenham’s – they’re in a different league.
“They need to spend money to bring in more options, and they need to do it in this window. It’s got to happen now if they want Champions League football.
“January isn’t the best window, however. Daniel Levy could well be trying to get to the summer when they can all sit down and take a bit more time to lay some serious groundwork on their top targets.”

Tottenham currently occupy sixth place in the Premier League but have two games in hand on fourth-place Man United – who they trail by two points.
Conte has suffered just one league defeat since taking the reins at Spurs in November.
