Tottenham told to complete ‘easy’ Joe Rodon sale after talks update

Tottenham should sell Joe Rodon instead of Japhet Tanganga.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

According to The Athletic (8 July), Bournemouth are in talks with Tottenham over a move for Tanganga – with both permanent and loan moves on the table.

The report claims Italian giants AC Milan and Napoli also hold an interest in the defender – who featured 11 times under Antonio Conte last term before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

Wenham wants to see Rodon sold instead of the versatile Tanganga.

“With Tanganga, he played 19 times last year and got injured in mid-January against Chelsea,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“There are not that many more fixtures than 19 before January. Under Conte he started in six of his first nine league games.

“Rodon didn’t start a single one. There is an easy person who moves on here out of the two and it is not Japhet Tanganga.

“Tanganga can cover central centre-back, right centre-back and right wing-back. Rodon can only play centre back and when Eric Dier was injured he was not selected to do so.

“For Tanganga to be continuously linked with a move away is frustrating. He has a contract until 2025.

“I can only think he will go if we get a really good permanent offer that is too good to turn down. I just can’t see him going.”

Tanganga can play on the right side of a back three as well as at right-back.

Tottenham are also close to signing Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence which would increase competition on the right side of Conte’s defence.
