Tottenham turn attention to new Andy Robertson swoop, Liverpool make definitive contract decision

Tottenham Hotspur are still keen to sign Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson despite their failed attempt in January, sources have told Football Insider.

The Scotland international turned down the chance to swap Anfield for North London during the winter window, but Spurs are hopeful of being able to tempt him this summer if they remain in the Premier League.

The 31-year-old is out of contract on Merseyside in the summer, and sources say that the Reds have decided to let the veteran control his own destiny in terms of his future.

Robertson could yet remain part of Liverpool’s plans for next season if he is content with the idea of being a squad player again next term, but Tottenham are also prepared to give him the chance to join them once again.

Liverpool ready to take Andy Robertson U-turn

Robertson returned to the Liverpool starting XI for their FA Cup victory over Wolves last time out, and scored the opener in a commanding 3-1 victory for his team.

His performance caught the eye of the Reds’ fans, and it appears to have given Arne Slot serious food for thought in terms of the plans for his future.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on Monday that Liverpool are still prepared to put the offer of a new contract on the table for the defender.

Brown suggested that Robertson’s performance against Wolves has reminded Slot and the club hierarchy that he is too valuable for them to lose at the moment, especially considering the struggles of Milos Kerkez this season.

That would then leave the ball in his court in terms of where he sees his future, and whether he is ready to leave Anfield in favour of a new challenge after nine seasons with the club.

Reds eye move for new right-back

Football Insider revealed last week that Liverpool are likely to be forced into adding a new right-back to their group ahead of next season, amid ongoing issues in the full-back positions.

The Reds have found themselves lacking depth on the right of their backline this season, with both Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones regularly being called upon to provide makeshift cover in the role.

Conor Bradley’s return date remains uncertain as he continues his recovery following a nasty knee injury, and with Jeremie Frimpong’s fitness also up and down throughout his debut season, the hierarchy are clear that they cannot go into the 2026-27 campaign relying on the Dutchman alone.

With that in mind, a new option is set to be sourced once the summer transfer window opens, and it is possible that a new arrival could swiftly follow at left-back if Robertson opts to move elsewhere.
