Tottenham in advanced talks to secure Sissoko transfer – report

By Russell Edge

Tottenham are in advanced talks with Turkish side Trabzonspor over securing a loan move for midfielder Moussa Sissoko, according to a report.

Turkish news outlet Gunebakis claim that discussions over a one year temporary transfer are set to have a “happy ending” by next week, with Spurs said to be happy to loan him to another European side.

A supposedly versatile midfielder, Sissoko has been a huge flop for Spurs after arriving from Newcastle in a £30million deal on transfer deadline day last summer.

The former Toulouse man failed to convince in his 34 appearances across all competitions as he failed to find the back of the net and managed to provide just four assists for his team mates.

It has been reported that Mauricio Pochettino is ready to offload the French international, but whether that is permanently or on a temporary deal awaits to be seen.

Football Insider verdict

While Pochettino is likely to have wanted to recoup some of the £30million splashed on Sissoko last summer, a loan deal might work out for Spurs. The midfielder has lost his way and needs to demonstrate the marauding runs and powerful play which earned him his 52 international caps and the multi-million pound move. If a loan spell gives him the chance to regain his focus and form, then he could return to North London as a force to be reckoned with, with Spurs not having lost a chunk of their investment. One issue which may arise would be wages, but if Tottenham can agree a deal for Trabzonspor to take on part of his income, then it could prove to be a worthwhile deal for both the player’s development as well as for the club’s finances.
