Tottenham victims of major injustice as Rodrigo Bentancur controversy analysed – Robinson
Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur should have been awarded a free-kick in the build up to Leeds United’s third goal.
That is the view of ex-Spurs and Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the controversial incident at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Antonio Conte’s side came from behind three times in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Leeds on Saturday (12 November).
In the second half, Spurs were incensed by the officials decision not to disallow Rodrigo Moreno’s second goal of the game.
Bentancur went to ground following a late challenge from Tyler Adams seconds before the ball hit the back of the net.
However, referee Michael Salisbury did not deem the contact as worthy of a foul and VAR official Paul Tierney chose not to intervene.
When asked by Football Insider if Spurs had a right to be angry with the officials, Robinson said: “100 per cent.
“It was a definite foul. We have seen a few instances this weekend where VAR should have intervened and hasn’t. That was one of them.
“It was a clear foul in the build-up. You can understand why Spurs were irate and upset about it.

“The question is, how far do you go back? Perhaps that played a part.
“It was a difficult game for me to be neutral in because I have feelings for both teams. Being neutral, it was definitely a foul.”
