Middlesbrough have agreed a fee with Heerenveen for the signing of winger Mitchell Van Bergen, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

This site revealed on Wednesday (18th August) that the Championship outfit had tabled a second bid for the 21-year-old after their opening offer was rejected.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Boro have now reached an agreement with Heerenveen and Van Bergen is booked in for a medical this weekend.

He has been granted permission to discuss personal terms with the Championship outfit and finalise the deal.

Netherlands under-21 international Van Bergen was due to be out of contract at Heerenveen at the end of this season.

The winger, who signed from Vitesse in 2018, can operate on both flanks but is primarily a right-sided player.

The youngster has scored 17 goals and contributed 10 assists in 99 games since moving to Heerenveen.

The winger made 32 appearances last season as his Heerenveen side finished 12th in Holland's top flight.

Neil Warnock's side have been active in the transfer window, bringing in nine new faces.

The most notable arrival at the Riverside Stadium is Argentine Martin Payero, who arrives highly rated from Banfield in a £6million move.
