Leeds fans react on Twitter after senior player abruptly quits
By Alex Taylor
Sol Bamba has quit Leeds United by mutual consent – and fans have taken to Twitter to express their shock.
In a shock move, Bamba will exit Elland Road even though he is the club captain and was contracted to the Championship outfit until next summer.
Leeds released a statement on their official website to explain the centre-back has “left the club by mutual consent due to personal reasons”.
Bamba, 31, has lost his first-team place in recent weeks and was omitted from Garry Monk’s squad last Saturday for the 3-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest.
But the abrupt departure brings to an end his year-and-a-half stay at Elland Road, in which he made 56 appearances for the club.
Fans took to social media to share their thoughts, with some claiming to be heart-broken by the news, while others took their opportunity to praise the club’s decision to reach an agreement with Bamba.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
The 49-time Ivory Coast international has come under criticism for his performances this season, particularly in the opening-day 3-0 Championship defeat to QPR.
In other Leeds transfer news, this former captain has signed with Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals.
