Viktor Gyokeres sends cryptic message amid major Man United development: ‘I will speak’
Sporting striker and Sweden international Viktor Gyokeres has spoken out amid Manchester United’s interest in his services.
As reported by BBC Sport [11 June], Sporting president Frederico Varandas has claimed that there is no gentleman’s agreement between the former Coventry City man and the Portuguese outfit to allow him to leave for a cut-price this summer, despite the 27-year-old’s contrary belief.
Gyokeres enjoyed a prolific 2024/25 campaign, notching 54 goals and 12 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.
Both Arsenal and Man United have eyed Gyokeres as Mikel Arteta and Ruben Amorim look to strengthen their respective forward lines.

Gyokeres vents frustration amid Man United transfer interest
The striker’s impressive goal-scoring exploits have fired Sporting to two consecutive Portuguese top-flight titles.
Meanwhile, taking to his Instagram story [12 June], Gyokeres wrote: “There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right.”
A move to Old Trafford would see the former Coventry man reunite with Amorim, who he enjoyed success with in Portugal.

Gyokeres could be an ideal signing for Man United
After Man United finished just 15th in the Premier League last season, it is clear that Amorim’s problems run deeper than the presence of a clinical striker.
Viktor Gyokeres stats | All competitions 2024/25 |
Appearances | 52 |
Goals | 54 |
Assists | 12 |
However, Gyokeres’ services would arrive as a significant upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund, who managed just four goals in 32 top-flight outings last term.
Man United have already signed Matheus Cunha, showing how intent Amorim is to add more goal-scoring quality to his ranks after the Brazilian excelled for former club Wolves.
While there is a gulf in class between the Premier League and the Portuguese top flight, Gyokereres’ stunning numbers show that he should be capable of meeting expectations at Old Trafford.
Furthermore, the Sweden international knows how to operate in the English game courtesy of his previous stint with Coventry, while Amorim knows how to get the best out of the 27-year-old.
Meanwhile, Man United also want to sign Bryan Mbeumo, who shone for Brentford under Thomas Frank last term.
