Wayne Rooney cited as Man United told to complete ‘marquee striker’ signing after source’s reveal – expert

Man United have been told to sign a “marquee striker” following years of duds since Wayne Rooney ruled the Old Trafford roost.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that the Red Devils’ must be on point with their next forward signing.

Football Insider revealed on 8th July that Rasmus Hojlund has agreed personal terms with Man United but the club are some way from agreeing a fee for the Atalanta striker.

Hojlund is regarded as one of the best young strikers in world football and it is believed he wowed Man United scouts with his lofty potential throughout the 2022-23 campaign.

Hojlund notched 15 goals across 41 appearances in all competitions last term, despite starting in just 26 of those outings.

With a transfer on the cards, Agbonlahor believes that Man United’s next striker signing has to be precise amid links to Hojlund.

“Man United needs a striker that guarantees goal,” he told Football Insider.

“They’re not in a position where they can bring in someone where it might work or it might not, or the player is not a clinical finisher.

“They have to get their next striker position right, they have not had a top striker at the club since Wayne Rooney.

“The striker over recent years haven’t done it look at Wout Weghorst, Anthony Martial, Odion Ighalo and even Radamel Falcao.

“They must make sure they make a marquee signing by signing a well-proven striker.”
