Wenger reveals why Sanchez didn't play for Arsenal v Bournemouth
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexis Sanchez could be leaving the Emirates in as little as 48 hours.
Speaking in a post-match interview today, following Arsenal’s shocking 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth, Wenger claimed that the Chilean international could have already left Arsenal.
“He’s always been committed until now but he could have gone yesterday and he could go in the next 48 hours,” Wenger claimed.
However, the French born manager stated that his choice to leave Sanchez out of todays team has nothing to do with the Chilean forward refusing to play.
“It was difficult for him because he was on standby. That’s why I decided not to do it.
“He did not refuse to play.”
Sanchez had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City, however it is now thought that the 29-year-old is on his way to Old Trafford to play for Manchester United.
Sky Sports have reported that the Red Devils are confident in signing Sanchez, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way in a swap deal.
Wenger has hinted also that an immediate replacement would be needed, so the deal makes sense.
“Look, if Sanchez goes we need to replace him, If players like Sanchez go we have of course to respond.”
Football Insider verdict:
Although it seemed as though it was a done deal with Sanchez going to Manchester City, it appears not. City were not willing to meet the alleged £35million valuation, and were prepared to sign him on a free transfer in the Summer. However, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan seemingly desposable at United, the part player part cash deal makes sense. Arsenal will gain a successor, and some money, instead of losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
