Kieran Maguire: West Brom may be braced for takeover bid amid ‘historic’ development

West Brom may be tidying up their balance sheet in order to present themselves to potential new buyers.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest news from behind the scenes at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies filed six submissions with Companies House on Wednesday (21 September), detailing the satisfaction of a number of historic charges.

Albion are currently owned by Chinese businessman Guochuan Lai but his premiership has been marred by a lack of clarity over the club’s operations.

Maguire suggests that the current regime may be attempting to put the club in the shop window with their latest Companies House update.

“West Brom’s decision to update Companies could be one of many things,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams

These are a number of historic charges that are effectively loans which have been secured on the club’s properties.

This could be that indicative of a club that is trying to tidy itself up with general housekeeping.

Secondly, it could be that the club is trying to get further loans over the next few months. The first thing lenders look at is if there are any existing charges.

The third option could be that they are trying to present themselves to potential buyers.

They will be looking at the balance sheet and the state of the club’s assets. It’s a bit like owning a house. You make sure that, when someone comes to look around, you haven’t left a load of washing up in the sink.
