West Brom could sack Ismael within weeks after ’embarrassing’ reveal – Agbonlahor

West Brom will sack Valerien Ismael if they fall six points behind the Championship automatic promotion places, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed the owners will not want West Brom to go through the “nervy” play-offs.

Ismael’s side have only won two of their last eight Championship games and sit four points behind second-place Fulham who have a game in hand over Albion.

West Brom

They have only found the net five times in the run and drew a blank for the second time in a row in the 1-0 loss to Derby County on Monday (27 December).

As quoted by Birmingham Live after the game, Ismael described the defeat at the Championship’s basement boys as “embarrassing and ridiculous”.

Asked whether the 46-year-old’s job was under pressure at the Hawthorns, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “If you win two games in a row you end up in the top two again.

“But if they drop six or seven more points off the top two then maybe he will be under pressure.

“The owners will not want West Brom to be going through the play-offs, it’s too nervy. They will want them in that top two.

“You can say they need a striker but a lot of teams do, look at Brighton.”

Blackburn

The Baggies could slip eight points behind the top two by the middle of January.

There next two league games are against Cardiff City and a trip to QPR with the FA Cup tie with Brighton sandwiched between.

In other news, West Brom are racing to sign a forward out of contract next week.
