West Brom next manager: New favourite installed to replace Eric Ramsay after just two games in charge

Russell Martin is the favourite to be West Brom’s next permanent manager if Eric Ramsay is sacked soon following a poor start to life in charge at the Hawthorns.

Several managers were linked with the West Brom job after Ryan Mason was sacked, but sources told Football Insider that Ramsay was closing in on becoming West Brom’s new boss in early January.

He was officially appointed as the Baggies’ new manager on 12 January, as he left MLS outfit Minnesota United after nearly two years in charge.

Ramsay has struggled since arriving at the Hawthorns, with respective 3-2 and 5-0 defeats to Middlesbrough and Norwich City leaving West Brom just three points outside the Championship relegation zone.

One of the UK’s leading bookmakers have already slashed the odds for Ramsay to be the next manager sacked in the second-tier, with Martin backed to take over if such a decision is made soon.

Russell Martin is the 5/1 favourite to be West Brom’s next permanent boss

Such a heavy defeat to fellow strugglers Norwich on Tuesday has already plunged Ramsay’s Baggies future into uncertainty.

One of the UK’s top bookmakers has already priced up odds for his potential replacement after 10 days at the helm, with former Rangers and Southampton boss Martin named as the 5/1 favourite to be West Brom’s next permanent manager.

Martin was in the running to replace Mason before Ramsay was appointed, according to the bookies, as he has been without a job since he was sacked as Rangers boss just 123 days into his tenure on 5 October.

The 39-year-old oversaw just five wins in the 17 games he took charge of the Glasgow giants for, but has been linked to numerous Championship jobs in the last few months after he led Southampton to promotion in 2024.

Who else could replace Ramsay if he is sacked by West Brom?

Martin is the favourite among all bosses to be in the Hawthorns dugout next, but it remains to be seen if Ramsay will be given ample time to get his ideas across and turn the Baggies’ form around.

Former West Brom manager Carlos Corberan is the second-favourite to succeed the 33-year-old, at odds of 7/1, with doubts around his future at Valencia right now as they occupy 17th spot in La Liga.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was recently in the running to return to Man United, but he could be back in management in the West Midlands soon instead, as he is priced as the third-favourite at 8/1 odds.

Others in the running include Lee Carsley and Michael Skubala at 10/1, David Wagner at 11/1, and ex-Baggies boss Slaven Bilic, at 12/1 odds.
