West Ham backed to complete ‘perfect’ Memphis Depay deal after source’s update – pundit

Memphis Depay’s approval is the only roadblock in a potential move to West Ham.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hammers’ latest transfer target.

On Friday (12 August), Football Insider revealed West Ham have submitted an offer for Depay as they look to recruit a top-class forward.

The Hammers have already boosted their attack with the signing of Gianluca Scamacca this summer though they failed to trouble the man City defence in their 2-0 loss last weekend. (6 August).

Kenny expects this deal to happen if Depay gives his approval.

“It would be a statement,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We have always been saying that they need another one in that forward lineup. I felt like that is what they were missing last season.

“Barcelona, who even knows what’s going on over there? Moving from Barcelona to West Ham would be some statement.

“It would be a big, big signing for them but it’s a position they need. They aren’t just doing it for the sake of doing it. He could be perfect for them.

“That’s what I like about this deal. Let’s see if Depay is up for it because that might be the only sticking point.”

Football Insider understands Depay has interest from other clubs, with Juventus among those pushing to sign him.

He scored 13 goals in 36 matches for Barca last season and has an impressive track record at Lyon, PSV Eindhoven and Man United as well as the Holland national team.
