West Ham news: Expert reveals why David Moyes has been a ‘nightmare’ to deal with this season

West Ham boss David Moyes has been an “absolute nightmare” in terms of disclosing information about his players’ fitness this season.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Striker Michail Antonio, 31, and left-back Aaron Cresswell, 32, were doubts ahead of the Irons’ 2-0 victory over Sevilla last Thursday (17 March).

Moyes was tight-lipped over the availability of both players, who had struggled in recent weeks with respective thigh and ankle injuries.

As quoted by football.london last Monday (14 March), the manager said: “If I did [know] I would not tell you because I am not going to let Sevilla know.”

But both played 120 minutes as West Ham progressed to the quarter-finals, and both started in the 3-1 defeat at Tottenham yesterday (20 March).

Dinnery explains that Moyes has deliberately chosen to remain coy over the fitness of his players in 2021-22.

“David Moyes has been an absolute nightmare this season,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Most occasions this season, all he has said is that they have had problems but that he isn’t going to give any more information.

“They have had Covid in the past, like every other team. But the manager has chosen not to say who it has affected.

“He is within his rights to do that, of course. We are seeing more and more managers adopt this stance and not being forthcoming with information.”
