West Ham expect Nayef Aguerd bids after £35m reveal – sources

West Ham are expecting bids of £30million-plus to arrive from Saudi Arabia for Nayef Aguerd later in the window, sources have told Football Insider.

The club are aware of strong interest in his signature from the Middle East and are willing to let him leave after signing Max Kilman from Wolves.

Aguerd, 28, is expected to leave the London Stadium this summer, but a deal may not be completed before mid-late August.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia are lining up late offers to secure their top targets amid an overhaul of the Saudi Pro League structure.

Sources say the Hammers are keen to sell the defender this summer but will hold out for their £35million price tag, having signed him for £30million just two years ago.

Football Insider revealed in May that West Ham were braced for Aguerd bids from Rennes and Lens, while fellow French side Lyon and Saudi Pro League clubs are also said to be interested.

The defender signed a five-year deal which is set to expire in 2027, but West Ham are now looking to cash in after just two years at the club.

Aguerd has made 58 appearances for the Hammers since arriving in 2022, and played just 28 times across all competitions last season amid injury struggles.

Interest from Saudi Arabia first emerged last summer but no deal was completed due to the Hammers’ lack of options in defence.

However, they are now looking to overhaul their backline after the arrival of Julen Lopetegui, with the signing of Kilman making way for further exits.

The Hammers are expected to use the £35million from Aguerd’s sale to reinvest in their first-team squad and will remain firm on their demand for their asking price.

This comes after former Hammers striker Frank McAvennie told Football Insider on 23 May that a widescale refresh of the defence would be necessary.
