West Ham fans react on Twitter after offer reportedly accepted for PL star
By Matt Farr
West Ham have reportedly had an offer accepted by Hull for midfield goal-machine Robert Snodgrass in the latest development of a protracted transfer saga – but it was met with a mixed response by fans on Twitter.
The Hammers looked to have missed out on the 29-year-old winger, after Burnley emerged as the frontrunners on Wednesday afternoon.
The Teesside Gazette later claimed that Middlesbrough had also had a £10million bid accepted for the Scotland international, which saw the Hammers fall further behind in the race for his signature.
However, Sky Sports sources understand that Hull have now accepted a bid from West Ham, who finally decided to submit an improved offer.
The east London side had previously seen two bids knocked back by the Tigers, and it looked as though they had given up their pursuit after failing with their last offer – a reported £6million bid rising to £7.5million with add-ons.
The Hammers are now considered to be leading the race to land Snodgrass, but not all fans are excited at the prospect of the transfer.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Snodgrass has been a superb asset to Hull this season, contributing nine goals and four assists from 24 appearances.
However, it appears as though his appearance in the victory over Bournemouth on January 14 was his last for the club.
Faced with three enticing new opportunities, Snodgrass now has an important decision to make over his future.
Football Insider verdict
Although the fans aren’t wholly in favour of a move for Snodgrass, West Ham are making the right decision. Their stubbornness to raise their offer looked to be their downfall, but the progress of Burnley and Middlesbrough acted as a catalyst, and now they looked to be the favourites to sign him. They do already have an array of wide attacking options, including Michail Antonio, Andre Ayew and Sofiane Feghouli, but Snodgrass can excel in areas where they don’t. Snodgrass has proven to be a consistent performer in the Premier League, and West Ham will be able to rely on him to do the business in the coming months.
