West Ham news: Danny Mills issues Michail Antonio claim after confirmed twist
West Ham star Michail Antonio will be “raring to go” after a “perfect” rest period over the international break, according to Danny Mills.
The former England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was reacting to the 31-year-old’s international omission.
Antonio was not named in the latest Jamaica squad despite scoring three goals in six games since switching his allegiances to the Reggae Boyz at the beginning of this term.
In the Premier League, the striker has netted just one goal since the beginning of this year (2022).
Antonio is West Ham’s only recognised senior striking option and has visibly struggled at times this term.
Mills claimed his international omission will provide the “perfect opportunity to rest up”.
“He’s so powerful and so quick,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“He’s always had those niggly muscle injuries and problems with fatigue.
“This could be the perfect opportunity now for him to rest up. Look after himself and enjoy a good break with no pressure.
“He will need to be fit for the next weeks. That could come through this rest over over this international break. He’ll be raring to go.”
As quoted by the Evening Standard last month (7 February), manager David Moyes admitted to having “concerns” over the Jamaica international’s workload.

Despite not scoring since New Year’s Day, Antonio has notched 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this term.
West Ham are back in Europa League action with a quarter-final first leg against Lyon on 7 April.
