West Ham player ratings v Chelsea: Best days are behind senior man
COMMENT By Harvey Byrne
Football Insider rates the West Ham players out of 10 after their 2-1 defeat against Chelsea at the London Stadium on Monday evening.
Darren Randolph 4 – Wasn’t helped by his defence for either goal. However, his positioning was questionable on both occasions too.
Cheikhou Kouyate 3 – A definite weakness in the West Ham back four. All too often gave away free kicks rather than winning the ball. Completely lost Hazard for the Chelsea opener.
Jose Fonte 4 – The experienced centre-back made a horrendous error in the first half. Was very fortunate Hazard’s cross to Diego Costa came to nothing.
Winston Reid 7 – An absolute colossus at the back. Won the ball from Costa on numerous occasions.
Aaron Cresswell 7 – Dealt with the threat of Pedro and Victor Moses well down his side, while also looking good on the attack.
Mark Noble 4 – Surrendered possession too easily for the Chelsea first. The senior man’s best days are behind him.
Pedro Obiang 5 – Helped maintain possession for his team, but he was often exposed when defending through no help of Noble.
Sofiane Feghouli 3 – Offered absolutely nothing in the final third. A terrible display from the Algerian before being subbed off.
Manuel Lanzini 7 – Looked bright on occasion. Scored a consolation goal in the dying moments.
Robert Snodgrass 6 – Worked well with Cresswell down the left, but his deliveries were often met by a very strong Chelsea back line.
Andy Carroll 5 – Seemed more interested in complaining at his teammates than actually doing anything with the ball.
SUBS:
Andre Ayew (For Feghouli 64 minutes) – 7
Sam Byram (For Reid 64 minutes) – 6
Edimilson Fernandes (For Noble 76 minutes) – 6
