West Ham sack recruitment chief Rob Newman, multiple staff going – Exclusive

West Ham have today (21 May) sacked head of recruitment Rob Newman, sources have told Football Insider.

Newman, 60, has been a close ally of manager David Moyes – whose departure at the end of this season has already been confirmed.

It is believed other senior West Ham staff are following Newman out of the exit door as club chiefs look to kick-start the post-Moyes era.

The transfer chief, who was previously a senior member of the recruitment team at Man City, was appointed at the London Stadium in 2021.

But the appointment of Tim Steidten, West Ham’s technical director, has squeezed out Newman over the last 12 months – and he has had increasingly less say over transfer matters.

Football Insider first revealed on 9th May that Newman was set to leave the club at the end of the season.

Steiden has endured a fractious relationship with Moyes since his appointment last year (2023).

Much of West Ham’s recruitment over the last two years has won acclaim from fans and pundits alike.

Deals for Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse last summer, as well as Lucas Paqueta and Nayef Aguerd 12 months previously, have been resounding successes.

However, deals for the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Gianluca Scamacca and Danny Ings have not worked out for the London club.

The Irons also reached the quarter-final of the Europa League but were eliminated by Bayer Leverkusen.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (5 May) that ex-Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui has been offered an “enormous” deal to replace Moyes.
