West Ham told to complete ‘brilliant’ January Ake deal – pundit

Kevin Campbell has insisted the addition of Man City defender Nathan Ake would be a “brilliant signing” for West Ham.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 26-year-old is “extremely versatile”.

As reported by 90min last Thursday (2 December), West Ham are lining up a deal for Ake ahead of the winter window opening next month.

The report claims the Hammers are most likely to submit a loan offer which includes an obligation to buy clause.

Interest in the former Bournemouth defender comes as Kurt Zouma joins Angelo Ogbonna on the treatment table, with the Frenchman reportedly set to miss between six and 12 weeks of action.

When asked about the prospect of the 26-year-old joining the east London club, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Ake would really level up that West Ham backline.

“He’s extremely versatile as well, he can play anywhere across that defence,”

“You could even put him in holding midfield. Getting a quality, versatile player like him would be a brilliant signing for West Ham in January.”

The 23-time Netherlands international has started just four league games for Man City this season.

Ake has been utilised in left-back, centre-back, and defensive midfield roles during his 161-game Premier League career.

Craig Dawson and Issa Diop are West Ham’s only current senior options at the heart of their defence.

The Irons sit fourth in the Premier League despite winning just two of their last five games.

In other news, pundit fears more West Ham stars could join Zouma on the injury list.
