Weston McKennie move collapses after Aston Villa and Tottenham talks
Weston McKennie priced himself out of a move to Aston Villa as part of the proposed swap deal with Juventus for Douglas Luiz.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the USA international was looking for “big” wages to make the move to Villa Park this summer.
McKennie, 25, had looked set to join Villa as part of a swap deal with teammate Samuel Iling-Junior, 20, that would see Luiz, 26, sign for Juventus.
Football Insider revealed on 12 June the two clubs were in advanced talks over the deal, with Unai Emery’s side also receiving £20million as part of the agreement.
After talks with McKennie broke down, doubts were spread over whether Luiz would still be able to complete his move to the Italian giants.
But the transfer is now back on after the Serie A club offered to make midfielder Enzo Barrenechea, 23, part of the swap deal instead of his teammate.
Weston McKennie in talks with Tottenham after Aston Villa snub
Football Insider revealed on 19 June Tottenham have jumped ahead of Villa in the race to sign McKennie this summer.
Spurs have held talks with Juventus over a £15million deal for the midfielder, whose contract in Turin is set to expire in June 2025.

Juventus are now closing in on a deal to sign Luiz as Villa are looking to ease their profit and sustainability (PSR) concerns as they are believed to be on the limit of their allowable losses.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month the West Midlands giants must raise £60million in player sales this summer to avoid a potential points deduction next season.
