Whelan claims Pochettino would be ‘mad’ to snub Real Madrid for sensational Tottenham return

Mauricio Pochettino faces a “no brainer” decision if he has to pick between moving to Tottenham or Real Madrid.

That’s the view of ex-Leeds striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider amid the latest in Spurs’ manager hunt.

As revealed by a Football Insider source, there is growing pessimism at Spurs that a deal can be agreed with Pochettino after they made contact.

However, the Daily Mail claim the 49-year-old has told PSG that he wants to leave this summer with Real Madrid considering him their top target.

Pochettino is under contract at the Parisien club until next summer after only joining during the recently concluded season.

When asked who Pochettino would choose between Real Madrid and Spurs, Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “I think that’s a no brainer.

“If I’m Pochettino and leaving PSG, the only club who can compete to win a title is Real Madrid.

“Tottenham are way off. Even if Harry Kane stays they won’t win the league and they aren’t in the Champions League.

“What’s the biggest attraction? Real Madrid. Who would turn that down if they came knocking?

“You would be mad to say no. Tottenham made the biggest mistake in the world getting rid of Poch.

“It was a farce. Come on, it’s Real Madrid. How much money will Levy give Pochettino?

“Tottenham are miles off and they will be even further off when Kane goes.”

Pochettino was sacked and replaced by Jose Mourinho in November 2019.

Mourinho himself was fired in April, just days before Spurs’ Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City.
