Whelan tips more Leeds big spending after Radrizzani’s late-night Leeds tweet
Leeds United are in a “healthier place” than they have been in decades under Andrea Radrizzani, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker paid credit to the Whites’ Italian owner for investing not only in the senior side but the reserves and the academy.
Radrizzani took to Twitter late on Friday night to celebrate Leeds under-23s’ “remarkable” title win.
He signed the tweet off by saying: “The giant is awake”.
The Whites beat Aston Villa 2-1 to wrap up the Premier League 2 division two title race with two games to spare.
It has been Leeds’ first season competing in the Premier League 2 setup after the club were awarded category one academy status last year.
The Whites also invested heavily on under-23s signings last summer, signing the likes of Sam Greenwood, Joe Gelhardt and Cody Drameh.
Whelan paid credit to Radrizzani for his unwavering support and financial backing over the past few years.
As such, he suggested there would be more spending at all levels of the club.
Asked if the under-23s’ success was a testament to Radrizzani’s vision, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Absolutely. That’s what it’s all about.
“When things are running smoothly at the top, everything falls into place on the field. There has never been a time where he’s never put his hands in his pocket.
“We want under-23s? We get under-23s. You want players for the future? He will get us players for the future.
“Now it is down to these players who’ve done so well in the 23s to push for that progression. To be for fighting for first-team places and putting pressure on the first team that are already there.
“I can’t remember a time where Leeds United has been in a healthier place on and off the field. That goes through the under-23s as well.”
