Whelan tips Rodgers to perform Tottenham U-turn on one condition after ‘door opens’

Brendan Rodgers could change his mind about taking the Tottenham job if Leicester fail to qualify for the Champions League.

That’s according to former Leeds United hitman Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ manager hunt.

Last month, Football Insider revealed Spurs have offered Rodgers ‘the earth’ in a bid to prise him away from Leicester this summer.

It is also understood there is a growing interest from Spurs in Scott Parker while Roberto Martinez is a prominent candidate and is a making a “huge play” for the post behind the scenes.

In the aftermath of Jose Mourinho’s sacking, Rodgers told Sky Sports that he has ‘no interest’ in talking to Tottenham.

Whelan claims the Foxes boss could change his mind if his current side finish outside the top four.

“Would Brendan Rodgers want the job? I’m not sure,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“It’s a great club with great facilities, a great stadium and a decent squad.

“If Leicester finish outside the Champions League spots, that could change things. I think that’s what a lot of people are waiting on.

“They have got three really tough games that could change the dimension of that top four race.

“Leicester have a lost a few recently, that has opened the door for other teams and Rodgers maybe joining Tottenham.”

Leicester were well beaten by Newcastle United on Friday, a result that dents the club’s Champions League hopes.

The Foxes face a tricky run in with upcoming games against Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham.
