‘Why wouldn’t you take it?’ – Hutton drops ‘huge’ Miguel Almiron verdict after Newcastle United development

Miguel Almiron staying at Newcastle United is a “blessing in disguise”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton admitted he understood why the Magpies would want to sell the forward, but claimed he will be needed to get the club through their “really difficult period”.

The 29-year-old is reportedly set to stay at St James’ Park for the remainder of the season as Saudi club Al-Shabab did not want to pay his £30million price tag.

The Paraguay international has scored five goals and provided two assists and has missed just one game all season.

Hutton claimed Almiron is among the club’s best players and will be needed to help revive the Magpies’ curtailing season.

“I think Almiron staying is a blessing in disguise,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s been a very good player for them in recent seasons, but I understand why they tried to cash in on him.

“Their Financial Fair Play is still a concern, and with his age – why wouldn’t you take it?

“The flip side to that is that him staying gives the club something else to move forward with, and this could be huge.

“They need all their best players and they’ve had a really difficult period of time.

“So this will be a real blessing for Newcastle.”
