Wilfred Zaha is ‘too selfish’ to join Newcastle United – expert
Frank McAvennie has claimed Wilfred Zaha is too selfish to join Newcastle United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said that Zaha doesn’t have the right personality to join St James’ Park.
The 30-year-old’s current contract at Crystal Palace expires in the summer and is yet to pen an extension at the club.
The former Man United man has made 25 appearances for Palace this season and has scored six goals and provided three assists in those outings.
According to the Daily Star (8 April), Newcastle are currently leading the race to sign the winger this summer and are believed to have a long-running interest in the Ivory Coast international.
Relegation threatened West Ham are also eyeing up a potential deal for the forward this summer and believe the prospect of staying in London could give them the edge over their northern rivals.
It is believed that an extension at Selhurst Park is not out of the question for Zaha but he is willing to listen to offers and move away from the London club.
When asked if Zaha is the kind of player Newcastle need, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Definitely not.
“I think Newcastle will always be about the work rate and I do not think Zaha is that kind of player.
“He is great going forward but does he do the work off it? I do not know.

“I might be doing him a disservice but I do not think he is that much of a team player.
“He seems like he is all for himself and I do not think that would fit into what Newcastle is going to be about.“
