William Saliba ‘dying before our eyes’ – Arsenal fans react to what they saw vs Newcastle
Arsenal fans have ripped into the “relegation level” defending from William Saliba and Gabriel, which led to Alexander Isak’s goal against them.
The Gunners were defeated 1-0 at St. James’ Park on Saturday (2 November), with the Sweden international scoring the only goal of the game in the 12th minute.
The defeat marked the fifth game of the season where Mikel Arteta’s team have failed to pick up three points, leaving them five points behind Man City with Pep Guardiola’s team still to play.
The Gunners failed to cause Eddie Howe’s side many problems, and supporters were left asking questions about their centre-back pairing.
Isak ran between Saliba and Gabriel to meet Anthony Gordon’s cross in the first half, having an unchallenged header to score the eventual winner.
Arsenal have only been able to keep three clean sheets in their opening 20 Premier League fixtures, with two of those coming in the opening two games of the campaign.
Arsenal fans were not impressed by William Saliba and Gabriel
It was a tough day at the office for Saliba in particular, with the France international only winning 33% of his tackles throughout the game.
His performance left supporters furious as they claimed his efforts were “shocking” as others claimed that the pair showcased “terrible defending” for Isak’s goal.
