Wolves could splash out ‘£20m’ on ‘younger signings’ – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Wolves fans should be “excited” about next season despite their financial concerns.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed there will be “no big signings at Molineux”, but suggested funds will be available to sign young talent.

Wolves remain under threat of breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) despite last summer’s fire sale, with Pedro Neto and Max Kilman among the stars linked with potential moves away.

Gary O’Neil led his side to a 14th-place finish in the 2023-24 campaign despite only arriving days before their first fixture and being handed a meagre budget.

Reports have suggested Wolves are close to sealing their first summer signing, with Sport Club do Recife 17-year-old Pedro Lima closing in on a move to Molineux.

Wolves will chase young talent this summer as cash crisis bites, says Wyness

Wyness insisted O’Neil is capable of building a “very cohesive, well-managed squad” despite potential sales.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “With a few players going out, they’ll be spending what they sell.

“There may be an extra £10-20million to sign younger players because Gary O’Neil does like to meld some talent into his squad.

“I’ve been impressed with the way he handled last season.

“It isn’t going to be big numbers, there’ll be no big signings at Molineux.

“But O’Neil will have a very cohesive, well-managed squad. They will be very fit and ready to go.

“If I was a Wolves fan I’d be excited about next season.”
