‘Wonderful talent’ – Exclusive: Ex-Spur view as Tottenham move for first signing
Michael Brown has claimed Tottenham would be getting a “wonderful talent” if they were able to complete a deal for Willian this summer.
The former White Hart Lane midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 31-year-old is in search of a three-year deal, something he does not believe Chelsea are willing to offer.
Willian, who is out of contract in June, is expected to exit Stamford Bridge this summer after the player claimed contract negotiations made it “impossible” for him to stay.
As reported by Football Insider, Spurs are set to pounce and offer the Brazilian a lucrative contract before the next window as they look to secure their first signing of the summer.
When asked by Football Insider if Daniel Levy will offer the winger a three-year deal, Brown said: “Any player that has a value when their contract is coming to an end they are always linked with a host of clubs.
“It is a cat and mouse situation. Willian may say to Chelsea he has had an offer of three years somewhere else but the club may have said two is enough for them.
“He is a wonderful talent. Spurs love attractive, wide creative players but there will be a lot of clubs looking to take him.”
However, Football Insider has learned any deal is likely to be iced as FIFA look to impose a set of emergency measures that would restrict player movement until all leagues are completed. If introduced it would affect 60 out of contract players in the Premier League.
The Premier League, like the majority of leagues across Europe, is suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic with hopes currently pinned on a mid-June restart.
In other Tottenham news, Noel Whelan has told Football Insider the latest decision by Daniel Levy is “a joke” after Rory Smith claim.
