Yoane Wissa return date revealed as Newcastle ‘will not rush anything’ with £55m summer signing

Yoane Wissa is nearing his return to first team action, with his first Newcastle appearance potentially just weeks away.

Wissa joined Newcastle from Brentford in the summer transfer window, in a move worth up to £55million to replace Alexander Isak who joined Liverpool.

Amid a desire to join Newcastle, Wissa refused to train at Brentford and then suffered a knee injury during the September international break.

Nick Woltemade has been solely trusted to lead the line, but Eddie Howe’s side have struggled for form, with just three Premier League wins in 11 games.

Yoane Wissa could make Newcastle squad vs Everton

As per Luke Edwards in The Telegraph, [13 November], Newcastle are being cautious with Wissa after a long period with match action.

It is thought that Wissa could make a Newcastle squad for the first time against Everton on November 28th.

There could easily be a temptation to bring Yoane Wissa into the squad for the game against City given the team are struggling to score goals and the DR Congo international has been back in training for several weeks,” Edwards reported.

However, it is understood Newcastle will not rush anything with the £55m signing from Brentford as they want to make sure the former Brentford player has had the equivalent of a full pre-season training before he makes his debut.

“Wissa was injured on international duty back in September and Newcastle have seen how Isak has struggled at Liverpool after going on strike for two months to force his summer move.

With that in mind, they only want Wissa, who also refused to train and play at Brentford in the summer to force his departure to Newcastle, to finally start his career on Tyneside when he is in peak physical condition.

There is a chance he will be on the bench against Everton on November 28 but that could be pushed back to the start of December.

Wissa return a boost for Eddie Howe

As Edwards has previously revealed, Eddie Howe has been “really hurt” by Wissa’s absence, with Woltemade having to carry a larger burden than expected in his first months at the club.

Wissa’s return will mean Howe is able to rotate between the pair and keep his squad fresh throughout the busy festive period.

The striker’s record at Brentford means he is likely to bring goals to St James’ Park, and a different dimension in attack.

It is a big boost for Howe amid pressure increasing on the manager for results, with the club currently lying 14th in the Premier League table.
