26-goal forward agrees move to PL club after Newcastle entered talks – reports

By Harvey Byrne

Premier League rivals Swansea have beat Newcastle in the race for young Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham, according to a report.

The Mirror has claimed on it’s website on Tuesday evening that the 19-year-old has agreed a one-year loan deal with the Swans where he will link back up with Paul Clement, who was the assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge.

It is detailed that Newcastle were also firmly in the race for the teenager, but were unable to agree a deal which would meet the satisfaction of all involved.

The highly-rated forward has been heavily linked with a move to the north east giants this summer and earlier in the month the Sun claimed that the Magpies had entered talks with Chelsea over his signing.

It was then further reported by the Mail that Newcastle were close to completing a loan deal for the striker, who bagged a very impressive 26 goals in 48 matches while on loan at Bristol City last season.

However, it would now now seem as though Newcastle have lost out on Abraham, who has opted to play alongside the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente at Swansea.

Football Insider verdict:

This is undoubtedly a blow for Newcastle, but it is far from the end of the world. Abraham showed his scoring prowess for Bristol City in the last campaign. However, Magpies striker Dwight Gayle also boasts a phenomenal strike rate in England’s second tier and there are still doubts whether he can make the step up. The Premier League is a huge level above the Championshop and Newcastle may be better off going for someone more proven. Additionally, fans are likely to prefer a permanent deal and while Abraham could help the club for a season, he would then head back to Chelsea and the Magpies would be in the same position next summer.

In other Newcastle transfer news, a Premier League club have opened with an offer with this forward also being eyed by the Magpies.
