Alfredo Morelos ‘could have got in trouble’ after what McAvennie saw at Rangers

Frank McAvennie has claimed Alfredo Morelos’ attitude problems could be the reason for his absence for Rangers against Ajax on Wednesday (7 September).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said the 26-year-old would have been “frustrated” by a lack of possession in the 4-0 loss.

The Colombia international was an unused substitute for the Gers’ Champions League group stage opener.

Antonio Colak led the line for the Ibrox club in Amsterdam.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side lost 4-0 for the second game in succession after a lacklustre defeat at Celtic Park on Saturday (3 September).

When asked if he was surprised Morelos did not get brought on in the second half against Ajax, McAvennie told Football Insider‘s Charlotte Cohen: “I do not know if it would have done any good.

Colak never got fed anything so I’m not too sure he would have got on. I think he might have got upset again and he could have got himself into trouble because he would have been frustrated with not getting the ball.

I think that is probably why he was not brought him on.

Morelos returned to the Glasgow side as a substitute in the game against Celtic on Saturday (3 September).

As quoted by the Daily Record (5 September), former Hoops striker Pat Nevin branded Morelos’ performance as “rubbish” and insisted the Colombian shouldn’t “blow the opportunity he has right now”.
