Arsenal backed to complete Youri Tielemans signing after source’s update – Agbonlahor
Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Arsenal to strike a last-minute “bargain” deal with Leicester City for Youri Tielemans.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Tielemans would be an upgrade on Granit Xhaka.
Sources told Football Insider earlier this week (18 July) that Tielemans is holding out for a move to the Emirates this summer amid interst from Arsenal and Man United.
The 25-year-old only has less than a year to run on his Leicester contract but wants a move to north London to be completed soon.
As quoted by Sky Sports on Thursday (21 July), Mikel Arteta confirmed the club are close to signing Oleksandr Zinchenko from Man City.
Arteta confirmed that Zinchenko is expected to play at left-back and in midfield for the Gunners when the deal is formally completed.
Asked whether Arsenal can sign both Tielemans and Zinchenko this summer, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think they can, yes.
“Another midfielder would help. Thomas Partey has had his injury poroblems and, for me, Xhaka is not the answer.
“They’ve got problems in that midfield that they need to fill and competition for places always helps.
“I don’t know if Arsenal are looking for a bargain last minute with Leicester but I’m sure they will be looking at Tielemans coming in.”
Arsenal have also added Fabio Vieira to the squad this summer in a £xmillion deal from Porto.
The north London giants finished fifth in 2021-22, narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification by two points.
