Aston Villa could sign another midfielder after Boubacar Kamara news – Hutton

Alan Hutton has tipped Aston Villa to sign another midfielder after Boubacar Kamara if they can offload one of their current senior stars.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa star suggested Steven Gerrard needs more quality in the middle of the park despite the 22-year-old’s arrival.

Aston Villa announced Kamara has agreed a five-year deal to join the club when his contract at Marseille expires this summer.

As revealed by Football Insider (16 May), Villa are among the frontrunners in the hunt to sign Kalvin Phillips from Leeds.

A recruitment source told this site (7 April) that they have also registered their interest in Brighton’s Yves Bissouma.

Asked if he thought Villa would sign another midfielder after Kamara, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Possibly. It really depends on who’s going to be available and the price that we’re talking about.

“But it does seem it’s the spine of the team he wants to strengthen. I think there has to be competition at centre-back moving forward if they want to reach the next level.

“In defensive midfield, as well as Nakamba and Douglas Luiz have done, I think you do need somebody else in there as well.

“We could see that, but I think it’s going to be a case of who’s leaving. Who can they get out the door as well? You can’t just bring people in, you need to move people on. That’ll be a big issue as well.”

Gerrard currently has the likes of Jacob Ramsey, John McGinn, Morgan Sanson, Marvelous Nakamba and Douglas Luiz to call on in midfield.
