Campbell: West Ham can land ‘Wonderful’ Sturridge signing now after Twitter reveal
Kevin Campbell has claimed Daniel Sturridge would be a “wonderful” signing for West Ham if he can prove his fitness.
The former Arsenal and Everton forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 31-year-old “could be a key player” for David Moyes’s side for the remainder of the season.
Sturridge has been without with a club since May 2020 when his contract at Turkish side Trabzonspor was terminated following a breach of betting rules.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker, who was handed a four-month ban for the offence, is now keen to reignite his Premier League career.
Moyes only has one recognised striker at his disposal for the second half of the season in Michail Antonio, after Sebastien Haller was sold to Ajax in January.
Campbell believes Sturridge could be a short-term fix for the Hammers.
“I love Daniel Sturridge,” he told Football Insider. “I love how he plays.
“The question would be his fitness. He could be a wonderful addition for any team in the Premier League but it is his fitness and injury record which is a concern.
“If he could sort that out, he could be a key player for West Ham between now and the end of the season, definitely.”
Sturridge has also been linked with a potential move to Newcastle United this month but Football Insider understands it is a non-starter.
The former England international has scored 77 goals in 218 career Premier League appearances.
In other news, Gabby Agbonlahor has been impressed with one West Ham signing and tipped the player to become ‘unstoppable’.
