‘Does he want to go?’ – Exclusive: Brown touts dilemma for star amid Celtic transfer twist

Southampton Fraser Forster faces a difficult dilemma over his future with Chelsea set to battle Celtic for his capture this summer, according to Michael Brown.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds midfielder claims that the temptation of a move to Stamford Bridge could see the Hoops left disappointed.

As revealed by Football Insider, Frank Lampard’s men are keeping tabs on the £10million shot-stopper ahead of a potential summer raid from Southampton.

However, Celtic are desperate to make Forster’s loan stay a permanent one after his fine form at Parkhead this season.

Brown claims that while the keeper may be guaranteed regular playing time in Glasgow, the lure of a big-money contract could tempt him to turn the Bhoys down.

Brown told Football Insider: “It’s always an interesting one with the goalkeepers and where they are happy and comfortable with when it comes to a certain part of their career, whether they want to play or whether they see themselves becoming a back role.

“It’s such a tough one with where you take it. I always wanted to play but you’ve seen many goalkeepers along the way say they’ll continue late into their 30s and be that backup goalkeeper.

“There’s always a pay-off to what sort of monetary issues we’re talking about – there’s a certain level where you say: ‘A little bit more, I’m going to continue to play,’ but if it’s a considerable amount over a period of time where you see yourself gaining longer security, you’ve got to consider that.

“If it was a Chelsea, does he want to go and live in London? Does he fancy going to do that on particular terms of a contract? There’s many things to weigh up, family comes into play.

“I think the supporters look at it at times and say: ‘He can play here every week.’ He’ll sum it up, he’ll want to play football, the bulk of them want to play football, play week in, week out, in European competitions.”

In other Celtic news, it can be revealed the club are hiking up their offer in bid to re-sign international.
