Done deal: Arsenal attacker seals coveted move
By Harry Sykes
Arsenal’s prolific youth striker Stephy Mavididi has joined Championship club Preston North End on loan, in a move that was announced on Friday evening.
It’s a season-long move that will see Mavididi try again in the Championship after an aborted period with Charlton last season, and the news was announced on the official Preston North End Twitter page.
It was first claimed back in March by the Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon that Mavididi wanted to try his hand in the Championship again this season, after his loan move to Charlton was cut short through a hamstring tear.
The striker only managed five games with Charlton before the injury forced him back to Arsenal to rehabilitate.
The 19-year-old is now keen to get regular game time under his belt in a competitive league after firing an impressive 20 goals in 40 appearances for Arsenal’s second-string team.
Preston North End kick off their Championship campaign on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday and Mavididi’s deal went through too late for him to be eligible to play.
EFL rules state that any player must be registered by noon the previous day to be eligible to play in the match.
However, he would be able to make his debut in the EFL Cup on Tuesday away at Accrington Stanley.
Preston North End will be hoping Mavididi will be able to fire the goals that could see them challenge the play-off spots after finishing 11th in the Championship last season.
