Ex-manager wowed as Tottenham open talks to sign ‘machine’ Coady from Wolves

Alex McLeish has backed Tottenham to raid Wolves for Conor Coady after opening talks over a deal.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old had grown into a “top player” under Nuno Espirito Santo.

As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (2nd August), Tottenham have opened preliminary talks over signing Coady.

This site detailed back in June Nuno had told Spurs he wanted to sign Coady during discussions over the manager’s post.

Coady missed just eight games from a possible 199 during the Portuguese manager’s time at Molineux.

As such, McLeish suggested he would be a “great” addition to the Spurs squad.

“Coady’s been around and he has had great experience,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“So I don’t think there are any problems at all with Coady coming to the club. He will bring his own style and identity to the club. He’s a machine.

“Nuno had him for that period of time and he really grew into a top player with that manager.

“It’s only normal practice when you see a manager come back for one of his old charges. He’s at the peak of his powers, is Coady. For me, that is a good signing.

“It’s a manager he trusts, respects and he loves, and vice versa the manager to him.”

Tottenham are in the market for a new centre-back after allowing Toby Alderweireld to join Al Duhail.

Coady has played 275 times for Wolves and has five England caps to his name.
