Pundit raves after Rangers agree to sign PL top-4 club player – Ibrox Exclusive
Noel Whelan expects Calvin Bassey to be a smart signing for Rangers as Steven Gerrard knows the English market well from his time as a player and a coach at Liverpool.
The former Leeds United and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested the 20-year-old was coming from a pedigree club and will improve the Gers.
The Gers confirmed the pre-contract signing of the left-footed full-back, who can also play at centre-half, although the transfer will not be finalised until the window opens later in the summer.
Football Insider exclusively revealed that the player had rejected the offer of a new contract at the King Power Stadium and has instead put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Ibrox.
Bassey has made 22 appearances for Leicester’s Under-23 side this campaign.
When admired the players willingness to make the move to Glasgow and pursue first-team football.
“Steven has spent all of his time in England and he knows the market well,” he told Football Insider.
“When you look at the Scottish Premiership, if you can get some good young players from a top young club like Leicester, why not? Get them in.
“He will strengthen and improve the team and he seems very keen to play for them.”
Bassey, upon signing, told the club’s website: “I am delighted to join Rangers and secure my future at a club of such stature.
“When I entered talks with Rangers, I knew this club was right for me. Of course I am thankful for everything Leicester has done for me and I am now very excited about working under Steven Gerrard and his coaching team to continue my progression.
“I have heard about the amazing atmosphere at Ibrox. I can’t wait to start pre-season and take my career to the next level in the famous blue Rangers jersey.”
