Expert reveals Tottenham plan for Marcel Lavinier after source’s contract update

Tottenham plan to renew Marcel Lavinier’s contract before sending him out on loan.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Saturday (13 August) Football Insider revealed Tottenham have axed Marcel Lavinier after he rejected a new contract.

The 21-year-old has been omitted from Spurs Under-21s’ opening two Premier League 2 matches of the campaign against Everton and Leicester City.

On 7 May, a club source told Football Insider that youngster Lavinier was one of several youngsters who had been promoted to the first-team set-up due to an injury crisis.

Wenham is hoping a compromise can be reached for one of the Spurs academy’s most experienced players.

“He has been left out of the first two games and I know his contract runs for another year,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Him choosing not to extend, maybe Tottenham are just going to freeze him out. We have plenty of players who can play in his position but he is experienced.

“Personally, I would be starting him with the Under 21s because we have started with a draw and a defeat.

“I think Tottenham want him to renew and then send him out on loan so hopefully some sort of compromise can be reached.”

Lavinier is capped by England at Under 15, 16 and17 levels, before featuring for Portugal Under 18s due to his dual nationality.

Tottenham are next in action against Wolves on Saturday (20 August).
