Gazza delivers verdict on Newcastle in PL and Benitez new signings
By Harry Sykes
Paul Gascoigne was back in the black and white of Newcastle over the weekend as he rolled back the years in a charity match at Dunston for Pavel Srnicek.
And after the game he was quick to praise current Magpies manager Rafa Benitez, saying that his activity in the transfer market this summer will pay dividends in the Premier League next season.
Talking in The Chronicle, Gazza also claimed that he is expecting Newcastle’s 48-year wait for a major trophy to come to an end soon.
“Rafa has made some good signings since he took over,” Gascoigne said.
“He will probably spend a bit more like every team.
“That’s what you have to do if you want to match those in the top four.
“But Rafa is a good manager and you only have to look on his CV at the amount of stuff he’s won.
“Hopefully he can do the same with Newcastle.”
Gascoigne played for Newcastle at the start of his career and became a quick fan favourite, making 92 appearances across all competitions and scoring 21 goals.
In other Newcastle news, the Magpies are now second favourites to sign this former England attacker with odds of just 3/1.
