Gerrard is being sensible in building his Rangers revolution from the back
Steven Gerrard is only days away from beginning his Rangers revolution, and the incoming Ibrox boss is being sensible when it comes to a certain aspect of his transfer policy.
Gerrard has obviously recognised that the Gers need to be built from the back, which is why he is pursuing defenders.
The Gers are set to make a third bid for Brighton defender Connor Goldson, as reported by the Daily Record, whilst the Light Blues have also been linked with West Ham’s James Collins, as reported by the Daily Record.
The reported moves for the duo, as well as the failed attempt to sign Martin Skrtel, shows that Gerrard has recognised a problem that needs to be solved if the Gers are to challenge for the league title.
The defence has been far too soft in recent seasons. The likes of Bruno Alves and Russell Martin just haven’t convinced, and didn’t look up for the battle.
That is certainly not the case with Collins and Skrtel, and you would imagine that it would be the same with Goldson.
Perhaps Gerrard is trying to build a team in his own image, who will work very hard whilst playing hard but fair.
The Gers have lacked those qualities in recent seasons, and it looks like Gerrard is trying to reintroduce them to the first-team as he begins his Ibrox revolution.
