'Giving me a headache' – Murty delivers critical update on handful of missing Rangers stars
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has given a critical update on six of his first-team stars who have been hit with injuries as the Light Blues problems begin to ease.
Murty has been without a number of senior stars with Lee Wallace, Bruno Alves, Ross McCrorie and Kenny Miller getting close to a return to action while Declan John and Sean Goss are being kept tabs on by the club’s medical staff after picking up minor injuries in Tuesday’s clash against Partick Thistle.
Despite the Gers injury concerns starting to lessen, Murty is still without Ryan Jack and Graham Dorrans for the foreseeable future as they recover from surgery.
Murty admitted he was looking to have a “headache” over his selection as his stars return to fitness.
“We are looking good. Declan is still being checked by our medical staff, while Sean Goss had a Neuropraxic injury, so he damaged a nerve in his face,” Murty said, as quoted by the Gers’ official website.
“He got a boot to the face, but has come back okay. Bruno Alves joined in training today, and Kenny Miller is obviously doing full days training.
“Ross McCrorie is progressing on after an injection, so we are hopeful he will start running soon.
“Lee Wallace is also progressing on, so we are looking to have more people back giving me a headache in terms of squad selection and people who are ready to go and play.”
Murty’s side are in action this weekend against League One high-flyers Ayr United at Somerset Park in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup and the Gers boss could look to pitch in some of his returning players against the side 21 places below the Ibrox giants in the league pyramid.
With a hectic schedule so far in 2018, the Gers boss will likely make a host of changes to the side which beat Partick Thistle and give game-time to some of those on the fringes of the starting XI.
In other Rangers news, it can be revealed that a key first teamer has sensationally asked to leave after the board failed to stick to their promise of giving him a new deal during the transfer window.
